Philip Alphonse is a Senior Partner and co-leads Vistria’s Knowledge and Learning Solutions practice, which currently consists of 10 portfolio companies with a combined revenue of over $4.5 billion. Currently, he serves on the Board of Directors of Soliant, MGT, Really Great Reading, ESS, and Edmentum. He is a former board member of MSI Information Services, Full Bloom, and Penn Foster.
Prior to joining Vistria, Philip was a Principal at Sterling Partners, where he focused primarily on investments in education companies. He previously served as a director for Educate, Inc., Educate Online and Infilaw Holding, LLC. Prior to Sterling Partners, Philip worked at Knowledge First, Thomas Wiesel Partners and investment firms McCown De Leeuw & Co., and Musa Capital Advisors Ltd. (Kingdom Holdings). He started his career as an investment banker with Morgan Stanley & Co.
Philip is the current chairman of the Illinois Venture Capital Association, and a board member at P33 Chicago and The Field Museum. Previously, he served on the board of the University of Chicago Medical Center. He was a commissioner (mayoral appointee) on Chicago’s Community Development Commission and served as a trustee and Executive Committee member for The Roxbury Latin School in Boston. Philip received an A.B. from Harvard University and an M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
