Since 1934, the Metropolitan Planning Council (MPC) has been dedicated to shaping a more equitable, sustainable, and prosperous Chicago region. Uniting business, policy experts, thought leaders and planners, today MPC is working with innovators towards transformative, equitable, community-centered recovery. One of those innovators is MPC’s 2021 Champion Fighter Award winner, Marty Nesbitt, Co-CEO and Senior Partner of The Vistria Group.
Nesbitt was honored this week for his deep-rooted commitments to using investment capital to make the world a better place. As former President Barack Obama noted in his introduction of Nesbitt, “Whether it’s in business, or his work with the Chicago Housing Authority or Big Brothers Big Sisters, Marty has always tried to figure out who the system is designed to serve, and who it should be serving. When he sees an opportunity to make a difference, Marty has always stepped up to the challenge.”
We know at The Vistria Group that Marty turns ideas into action ensuring that capitalism and democracy continue to foster prosperity. “The American dream has to be real, or the system doesn’t work,” Nesbitt explained. “There is an incredible value proposition: If the communities around us prosper, our businesses are worth more; our businesses do better.”
Marty’s philosophy is based in believing, “We have the power to target how and where we invest our capital. We can ensure our employees and vendors are diverse. We can partner more effectively to support our communities and customers.”
You can hear more about Marty’s passion toward making an impact in an interview he did for the award acceptance with Mona Sutphen, Partner and Head of Investment Strategies at The Vistria Group.
Kip Kirkpatrick, Co-CEO and Senior Partner at The Vistria Group commented, “From all of us at Vistria, congratulations Marty. We are honored to work alongside you to unite the private market in driving a more robust and equitable economic impact across our communities.”
